Teater Garasi is a creative community and a laboratory of theatre creations which believes that theatre work/performance is also a mode of articulation of social interactions/awareness and a practice of knowledge —a way to think/investigate, beside it's common/popular attribute/acknowledge: as a practice of aesthetic and amusement.
Hence, as a creative community Teater Garasi takes the shape of a field where people —from various disciplines of art and knowledge— meet and interact, to explore and celebrate human values and cultural diversities in our contemporary experiences/lives.
As a Laboratory of Theatre Creations, Teater Garasi is an institution in attempt to create fresh and genuine theatre idioms, based on research and study of existing theatre/performing art traditions, fuse/juxtapose it with contemporary models/sensibilities/imageries.
In order to manifest such vision, Teater Garasi divides its programs into three different fields: (i) Theater Creations, (ii) Theater Studies, and (iii) Knowledge Improvement.
Teater Garasi was founded on December 4, 1993 by Yudi Ahmad Tajudin, Y. Kusworo Bayu Aji and Puthut Yulianto. Since the beginning Teater Garasi has been trying to develop and establish theatre works /performances that also have a capability to build critical dialectics upon the broader context within and beyond theatre world with its public/audiences/spectators.
